Google Quest Cryptex

The U.S. version of the Da Vinci Code Google Quest is coming to its conclusion, with the 10,000 finalists currently receiving their cryptexes in the mail, soon to be followed by emails pointing them at the final challenge (see here for an image of one of the cryptexes). This concluding challenge will be based completely on the time taken to complete the final puzzles (that is, not the time of day you finish), which can be done at any time in the allotted 48 hour period. Quite simply, the fastest of the 10,000 wins the major prize.

Obviously, it's unlikely that you'll find the answers to the final challenge on our Da Vinci Quest on Google - Solutions page (which has had over 150,000 hits during the past month, and also has had slmost 500 comments). But please do let us know if you're one of the finalists, and it would be awesome to see a winner out of one of the crew (I'm in Australia, and therefore ineligible to even get one of those little cryptexes, let alone the major prize).

Not a Finalist

I was not a finalist either. I didn't get home from work until 3 pm ET, it only took me about 5 minutes to complete but i guess i should have taken a sick day. I know i would not win the final challenge anyway because there are many friends who both got in or married couples who got in and i would think that one would do the challenge and find all the answers and then let their partner do their challenge with the answers in hand, unless every person gets different challenges. I hope so in the spirit of fairness. I enjoyed the challenge anyway and i really appreciated this site when the geography/map challenges came up. Thanks and good luck to all.

I am a finalist!

I am one of the 10,000! And I got my cryptex yesterday in the mail. I am looking forward to the challenge on Friday. Although I know it will be alot tougher!! I would LOVE to win the grand prize trip!!

Watch the video

When you watch the video introduced my Sir Ian McClellan, certain letters in each persons title are illunminated. What does this mean? I ran the letters through a anagram generator, but very little makes sense.

Here are the letters:

Neon - I think you're missing some letters.
They start in the video with Ron Howard and finish with Audrey Tautou.
I get: “HITRMEANAUNIVNFDTIV"
I'll just link to the solution so it doesn't spoil it for anyone:
